The Trans-Alaska Pipeline

Trans-Alaska PipelineThe 800-mile-long Trans-Alaska Pipeline is capable of delivering up to 2 million barrels a day of North Slope crude oil to the terminus in Valdez. The pipeline runs both above and below ground between Prudhoe Bay and Valdez and is visible at numerous locations along the highway and train routes between Fairbanks and Valdez. The construction of this pipeline was truly a feat of ingenuity and technology since it travels across some of the harshest winter environments in the Arctic. Environmental standards also had to be met since numerous botanical and wildlife species inhabit the interior of Alaska.
